Morro Bay Mysteries – A Talking Animals Cozy Mysteries
The Morro Bay Cozy Mysteries series takes place in a small coastal town in central California.
My husband chose Morro Bay in 2021 as a good place for us to take a fall break. People were still wearing masks indoors everywhere, but the allure was the cooler temperatures. We had an average of 100 degrees at home in the Santa Clarita valley north of Los Angeles and Morro Bay was 65-68 degrees. It looked very tempting.
We chose a hotel that looked out on the Rock in the bay and started our drive south. Little did we know that most of the hotels look out on the Rock in the bay. We loved it there. It was cool enough to be outside and beautiful. Brent could kayak in the bay. I could sit in the room and write. But it was the sea lions, sea otters, and the seagulls that charmed their way into the books.

The sea lions seemed loud, and they were. All day and half the night, they barked and barked. And the seagulls were everywhere, flying here and there, on the buildings, railings, and our balcony. I wondered how Robbie would do with seagulls.
The sea otters are quieter. They live near the road that takes you to the Rock and the beach. Watching them float around, watching us stare, made me wonder what they thought of the sea lions.
That’s how Morro Bay Mysteries was born. Writing in the cool breezes and tasting the various chowders at different restaurants gave birth to a whimsical series.
