Positive Family Fun – Finding inexpensive things to do together!
Spring is near and we can start peeling off the layers. In our neck of the woods, spring means shorts, t-shirts, and 80 degree weather. The trees and wildflowers are blooming everywhere and I can’t get enough antihistamine. What could a family do for fun?
- Go to a park – neighborhood parks and regional parks provide playgrounds and room to run. Sometimes you can find shady places to eat a snack or read a book. Relax, enjoy conversation, and have fun!
- Visit the library – it’s a quiet spot but enjoyable for reading or writing. Family time spent in a fairly controlled atmosphere.
- Get your walk in – using simple, short walks listed in tour guides about your area. Our valley has hikes of all different lengths and difficulty. Remember sunscreen, appropriate outerwear, and water as well as snacks.
- Stage a camping trip at home – if you have a tent and a backyard, pitch the tent outside and enjoy camping-like activities such as roasting marshmallows, hot dogs, and singing. If your home doesn’t come with a backyard or the weather doesn’t cooperate, pull out the blankets and gather in the living room. Read books together, play board games, and eat non-sticky things.
Whatever you choose, pick activities you will enjoy with your family and have fun!
