This week I read chapter 3 in the Intercessory book. This chapter focused on the power of confident prayer. It used the parable from Luke 11:5-8 to show a man willing to sacrifice his night of sleep to meet the needs of someone. Someone who has an urgent need.First, think of someone with an urgent need. God is able to help. God will certainly help in answer to prayer. So we feel compelled to pray for that help.Second, willing love. He took his friend into his heart. True love for others compels us to pray.Third, the sense of powerlessness. I have nothing to give. This compels us to pray for others because we can do nothing, but God can do everything.Fourth, Faith in prayer. What the man himself doesn’t have, another can supply. We need this simple, confident faith that God will give what we ask. God is waiting, even delighting, to bestow blessings on us in answer to prayer.Fifth, Persistence that prevails. It is not easy, against all appearances, to hold firm to our confidence that God will hear, and then to continue to persevere in full assurance that we will have what we ask. God highly prizes our confidence in Him.Sixth, Certainty of the reward. Prayer opens the way for God himself to work in us and through us. We have a rich Friend in heaven. The everlasting God and Father waits to be asked. Intercession, prayer, is the blessed link between our powerlessness and God’s omnipotence.So this week, let’s pray for the Spirit of Holiness. God is holy. Pray for all saints – God’s holy ones – throughout the church that the Spirit of holiness may guide and direct them. How will we pray? By trusting in God’s Omnipotence. Be still before God and ask Him that you might know Him as the Almighty One. Leave your petitions with Him who does the impossible.Titus 34 But—“When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.” 8 This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on these teachings so that all who trust in God will devote themselves to doing good. These teachings are good and beneficial for everyone.
