I sat in the car waiting for the air conditioner to kick in and heard a familiar worship song on the radio. The song seeped into my heart as I put the car into gear. It washed over my soul refreshing my emotions and lifting hope in spirit. I needed that song. It didn’t occur to me to be praying for our leaders.
I don’t drive much anymore so that errand I was to quickly run was a breath of sweet cooling air. Being a telecommuter who works from home and can be hostage to conversations and other’s television choices. My own choices of mindless series in the background to keep me moving forward with tedious work tasks are sometimes depressing.
Are you praying for our leaders?
And recently I’ve been watching West Wing tv series. It can be a depressing show. People who work hard to create change for the regular common man fill every episode. The main theme of the show seems to be no decision is simple.
At the end of my errand, I heard another worship song and felt compelled to pray. Very few people in the show had time to be still and know God. Even fewer people think it was possible. Are we praying for our leaders?
Praying for change in our world
We pray for them to have hope in a world filled with disappointments. Lord, help us to pray for them to feel appreciated in the midst of constant complaints and demands. We pray for them to be guided by God, to hear His voice, and obey His commands. Help them bring safety and peace to our land. We pray they will make good choices.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 The first thing I want you to do is to pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Especially pray for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
