I am not supposed to force myself to be silent before God. I am to listen for his voice. Zephaniah tells us that He sings with joy when I turn to him, when I say, Daddy help me, or when I say daddy what do I do? Daddy, what are you doing? Can I help? Daddy, I’m lonely. Will you hug me?
He sings with rejoicing and love. When I hear his songs to me it calms my soul and brings me peace. He brings silence into my heart, not empty quiet, but peaceful vibrating silence. I can think again. I can hear him again.
Now my life is brighter. Whenever I stop to his joyous songs things are brighter. I can see him and hear him. And he is glad to be with me and rejoices with the angels. He rejoices when I return from sin. He rejoices when I come back to him from straying. He rejoices whenever I turn to him for anything.
I look at things differently once I hear his songs. I can see things from a fresh viewpoint. I have a different view of life. I may not be the best at my job but he loves me anyway. I may not have the money to pay my bills but he loves me and will take care of me. I may hear people curse my name or try to cause me pain, but I hold his hand and he walks me through. I can concentrate on his songs. I know I am loved at every moment of everyday, at every point of sin, at every failure. He loves me.
Be still and know that I am God (by Emily A Combs)
Be still, be still
I know you are God
Be still, be still
Let my words be love
and joy and peace
Be still, be still
I know You are God
Be still, Be still
My heart cries out
And I fall on my knees…
I lift my hands, hold me, please.
Psalm 62:1-2, 5-6, 7-8, 11-12 God, the one and only— I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I need comes from him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, An impregnable castle: I’m set for life.
My help and glory are in God —granite-strength and safe-harbor-God— So trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him. God is a safe place to be.
God said this once and for all; how many times Have I heard it repeated? “Strength comes Straight from God.” Love to you, Lord God! You pay a fair wage for a good day’s work!
Romans 12:2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Or, be a new and different person with a freshness in all you do and think.
Zephaniah 3:17 Your God is present among you, a strong Warrior there to save you. Happy to have you back, he’ll calm you with his love and delight you with his songs. Or, He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will bring [you] quietness with His love. He will delight in you with shouts of joy.
Proverbs 16:9 We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.
