Romans 9:30-33How can we sum this up? All those people who didn’t seem interested in what God was doing actually embraced what God was doing as he straightened out their lives. And Israel, who seemed so interested in reading and talking about what God was doing, missed it. How could they miss it?Because instead of trusting God, they took over. They were absorbed in what they themselves were doing. They were so absorbed in their “God projects” that they didn’t notice God right in front of them, like a huge rock in the middle of the road. And so they stumbled into him and went sprawling. Isaiah (again!) gives us the metaphor for pulling this together:Careful! I’ve put a huge stone on the road to Mount Zion, a stone you can’t get around. But the stone is me! If you’re looking for me, you’ll find me on the way, not in the way.Lord, help me be careful to trust in you. Don’t let me take over. Forgive me for trying to control things and making my plans without contingencies.Help me to embrace what you are doing as you straighten out my life. Let me see you working in my life and listen to your voice each day. Fill me with your patience and your kindness.Let me not be so filled with how things should be that I cannot see how things are. Fill me with your hope and your faith so I can see what your vision is.Fill me with your grace and your mercy so that I will not judge others. Remind me of what I would be without you. Don’t let me point fingers. Fill me with your gentleness.Let me see you in front of me. Help me to look for you so that I find you. Keep me from “God projects” that take my time away from you. I want to see you every day. Open my eyes so that I can see you today.
