2 Samuel 10:8-12The Ammonites marched out and arranged themselves in battle formation at the city gate. The Arameans of Zobah and Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah took up a position out in the open fields. When Joab saw that he had two fronts to fight, before and behind, he took his pick of the best of Israel and deployed them to confront the Arameans. The rest of the army he put under the command of Abishai, his brother, and deployed them to confront the Ammonites. Then he said, “If the Arameans are too much for me, you help me. And if the Ammonites prove too much for you, I’ll come and help you. Courage! We’ll fight with might and main for our people and for the cities of our God. And God will do whatever he sees needs doing!”Some days it feels like life is a battle. And most days, the battles seem to come on more than one front. How do we cope? Fortunately for most of us, the battles are not actual battles. We have obstacles and challenges that feel like battles. They drain our emotions and our strength. But we have someone who fights for us. He does whatever he sees needs doing. We step up and do what needs to be done with our best and trust that God steps in to finish the battle.Lord, today I feel the battles in my soul. I feel worn out and ready to quit. But I don’t have that option. Fill me with your strength and courage today so that I can fulfill my duties. And let me see the joy that you bring into my life, those little things that make me smile. Give me peace in my soul and love that is free to all I meet.Thank you for fighting my battles for me when I need help and can’t do it on my own. Thank you for never leaving me alone.
