Do you sometimes hear songs in your mind? I do. Sometimes I have no idea why the song shows up in my thoughts. But other times, I feel the tugging of the Lord leading me to write. Only You, Lord, lead me.
In the Bible, the phrase “only you” is used over 44 times. In about half of those verses, you refer to our Lord God.
Hannah’s Story
Hannah’s story as Samuel’s mother begins with her praying and pleading with the Eternal One. She refers to Him as the Commander of heavenly armies. She asks God to look down and remember her. “Don’t forget me!” she cried. “If only You will look down at my misery.” She made so much noise that the priest came to shush her.
Oh, Lord God, remember me. If Only You will look down at me.
Throughout the Old Testament, prayers were heard, stating, “Only You, Lord God, know every heart.”
Hear me, Oh Lord in heaven, grant me forgiveness according to my heart. Only You know the heart of every man. Hear my prayers for my own sins and for the nations. I lift up my outstretched hands toward You, O Lord. Only You, Lord, know my intentions and heart. Lord God, Eternal One, only You can help me when I fight the powerful. I trust You, my True God.
You, Lord, announce I am free of all charges. Only You see my heart. You treat me with fairness and look at me with justice. Only You can save me. Hurry, my True God. Injustice overwhelms me but You forgive me of my sins. You restore me and my life as only You can.
I acknowledge only You! No one else rules over my heart.
You alone are God. Only You are supreme over me. And only You have made the heavens above, the earth below, and everything in them.
