I have considered recently, wondered, if I am in a dead end job. Then I read the definition of a dead end job. It is defined as “a terminal position with no prospects of promotion, pay raise or increased responsibility.”
This article also included a definition of burnout. (Usually what causes you to think you are in a dead end job!) Burnout is where the employee “suddenly becomes disillusioned, exhausted and disinterested in work.” To avoid burnout it is important to “feel valued and not overworked.”*
Sometimes Christians feel like they are in a dead end job. However it is defined a little differently. It is full of opportunities for increased responsibility with little prospect of feeling valued but definitely being overworked. This is why we are constantly asked to pray for one another. And why we need to encourage one another.
Take a moment to think of those on staff (and their families!) and those who are volunteers. Think of how we can make them feel special, be encouraging, but mostly, spread a prayer covering over them to protect their hearts and their bodies.
2 Thessalonians 2:15-17 So, friends, take a firm stand, feet on the ground and head high. Keep a tight grip on what you were taught, whether in personal conversation or by our letter. May Jesus himself and God our Father, who reached out in love and surprised you with gifts of unending help and confidence, put a fresh heart in you, invigorate your work, enliven your speech.
Hebrews 10:22-25 So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.
