Numbers 14:6-9Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, members of the scouting party, ripped their clothes and addressed the assembled People of Israel:“The land we walked through and scouted out is a very good land—very good indeed. If God is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land that flows, as they say, with milk and honey. And he’ll give it to us.Just don’t rebel against God! And don’t be afraid of those people. Why, we’ll have them for lunch! They have no protection and God is on our side. Don’t be afraid of them!”As a parent I am familiar with the desire to rip my clothes while addressing my children. I am familiar with the feeling that they are not listening and the frustration at not knowing if they will heed my words. At other times I feel the same frustration with other people in my life. They don’t seem to understand the concept of “wait on God”, compassion or forgiveness. But I have to be careful in these moments when I feel that I am right and I understand what God is doing. I am not to judge or think myself better than others. I am not in charge of the other people. I am in charge of me. I can control me. Well, sometimes I can control me. Even my self control is dependent on God’s grace and mercy.I am a child of God and he loves me. He is with me. He will walk me through this time of uncertainty and fear. He will provide what I need as I need it.Lord, forgive me of my sins. Help me to not rebel against you and your plans. Show me how to live in peace with you. Fill me with your strength and your courage to keep moving forward.Your plans for me are good. Help me to trust you more each day. Let me live today with your hand holding my hand. I can walk strong knowing you are beside me.
