Psalm 8:1-2God, brilliant Lord, yours is a household name.Nursing infants gurgle choruses about you; toddlers shout the songs That drown out enemy talk, and silence atheist babble.Even children sing about the Lord, how wonderful and great he is. These songs and choruses will drown out the sound of God’s enemies and those who do not believe. The sounds of “Jesus Loves Me”, “The Bible Tells Me So”, and “Every step I take” drown out the cares of my day. These songs from the lips of children are a joy to hear.Years ago I helped with our church’s 3 year old program. We sang songs with motions. At the beginning of the year, the children were unsure of the songs, unsure of us teachers, and very unsure of the place. But by the end of the year we were friends. Together we raised our arms and waved our hands in praise and song. I will never forget the joy on their faces and in my heart as we laughed our way through the motions of the songs. We loved God together. And in that moment, the giant fears of childhood and the worrisome cares of adulthood were drowned out by the praise of tiny people.Lord, I praise you this day. You are glorious. You are great. The simpleness of your joy and your love are expressed in so many songs. You love me. You care for me. In every step I take and in every breath I breathe, I want to praise you for you are my God.Help me to remember you as I walk through today. Stay with me every step of the way. Bring smiles to my face to share with others the simple joy of being loved by you.
