Jesus had a purpose for coming to earth as a baby, to be our Savior, to die for us. Apostle Paul had a purpose, to reach the non-Jews with the message Jesus died for all men, regardless of race or beliefs. My purpose is to share what I hear the Father speak to me. What is your purpose?
1 Peter 5:12 I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother.
My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.
Everyone has a purpose in this life.
I discovered my purpose by writing. I write better than I speak. Standing in front of people, I might say anything, especially if it is different than what I should be saying.
I joined a prayer team which progressed into writing emails every week with a short devotion. Soon my mailing list was over a hundred names of volunteers and staff.
Everyone has a purpose, something God has planned for them to do.
2 Cor 7:12 My purpose, then, was not to write about who did the wrong or who was wronged. I wrote to you so that in the sight of God you could see for yourselves how loyal you are to us.
God designed us for a purpose.
Through our talents, experiences, and gifts God moves us toward the purpose He has for us. We are individuals. Our experiences are unique.
And God has a plan for us now, in this moment and we should walk in it daily.
Finding and walking in our purpose provides for us satisfaction and fulfillment.
2 Cor 8:5-6 This was totally spontaneous, entirely their own idea, and caught us completely off guard.
What explains it was that they had first given themselves unreservedly to God and to us.
The other giving simply flowed out of the purposes of God working in their lives.
God develops and equips us for a purpose.
Every experience in our lives moves us closer to God’s final purpose, or the purpose at this time. Even the bad choices we make or the bad things that happen to us God uses to His glory. He comforts us and we can then comfort others we meet.
He rescues us and we give hope and encourage to others being rescued. Our faith is a testament to the trust we have in God. As we grow in trust and faith, the Holy Spirit moves in us to provide everything we need.
2 Tim 3:10 But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance.
I have passionate desires in my heart.
God has provided me with desires in my heart. I am passionate about them. When I talk about them, my arms wave, my eyes sparkle, I start to dance, even while sitting. These things are close to my heart. I want to inspire hope in people and help them know how much God loves them. They should know they matter.
Romans 11:5 They’re holding on, not because of what they think they’re going to get out of it, but because they’re convinced of God’s grace and purpose in choosing them.
I have talents and abilities, things I can do.
Writing is what I love to do but my crafting skills seem limited. I sing and play the piano but my rhythm skills limit me to slow or moderate songs. Organizing people to fit their talents into the best places they can be used is fun and interesting. But I don’t like being in front of more than one or two persons at a time.
There are things I can do and things I cannot do. Some things I find hard to do but will if the need arises. God knows these things.
He provides teams, partners, and friends who have complement talents and abilities. As we work within God’s plan and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are able to accomplish more than we can individually.
My purpose for this time or season of my life may be different than I want it to be.
Maybe I’m struggling with a menial job or faced with care-taking I wasn’t prepared for. Possibly I have mountains of laundry and dishes, or I’m faced with impolite, impatient customers. This isn’t my dream job or my passion for my life, but this is where I am today.
I’ll need to spend my time memorizing promises of God. I’ll need prayer and quiet contemplation time, even if it is only one minute long. My life isn’t where I want to be right now, but this is where God has me.
I will pray to God for His patience, love, and joy to accomplish my tasks. I will trust God to move me slowly toward my purpose.
God will confirm my purpose.
When I understand my purpose, God confirms it. Sermons have a point which speaks to my heart. Songs come to mind or are sung around me to show me I’m in the right place.
Bible verses and devotions reassure me of God’s love and plan for my life. And we know, in our hearts, we are where we need to be. And we move forward in the path God has for us.
Col 1:3-5 Our prayers for you are always spilling over into thanksgivings. We can’t quit thanking God our Father and Jesus our Messiah for you!
We keep getting reports on your steady faith in Christ, our Jesus, and the love you continuously extend to all Christians.
The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.
