Joshua 23:6-8“Now, stay strong and steady. Obediently do everything written in the Book of The Revelation of Moses—don’t miss a detail. Don’t get mixed up with the nations that are still around. Don’t so much as speak the names of their gods or swear by them. And by all means don’t worship or pray to them. Hold tight to God, your God, just as you’ve done up to now.Staying true to God is not all that easy in today’s world. Especially if you see it as your world, a place where you belong. The rules Moses laid down in the first books of the bible were to help guide God’s people. They weren’t well brought up.They had lived as slaves and then wandered in the desert. They didn’t have a lot of memories of how to live and how to get along with people. They also didn’t have a lot of practice living lives to God’s glory. Many Christians today do not have a heritage of growing up in homes where Christ was the center. Their homes were not filled with peace, love and joy. Kindness and gentleness tempered with patience was not the way things happened in their homes. Their parents did the best they could but still many homes were not the perfect place to learn how to live. The world does not give good lessons on how to live. The world is bent on making money, getting people to buy things they don’t need, and looking out for themselves first. As Jeremiah stated in his book, some will even kill their own mothers and grandmothers in order to feed their own selfish desires. How do we live in this world?Lord, forgive me of my sins. Help me. Cleanse my heart of selfishness. Heal the hurts in my heart. Protect my family from harm.Help me to be strong and steady. Teach me to live life your way, with love, joy and peace. Show me what it means to love you with all of my heart, soul and mind. And then show me how to love others as I love myself.Let me continue to hold tight to you, Lord. Help me to be strong and secure, bowing only to you in worship. You are my priority. You are my salvation. You are the Holy One of Israel and of my heart. You are the refuge of my soul. I crawl into your lap so that you can comfort me.Guide me today to be strong in you.
