1 Kings 3:10-14God, the Master, was delighted with Solomon’s response. And God said to him, “Because you have asked for this and haven’t grasped after a long life, or riches, or the doom of your enemies, but you have asked for the ability to lead and govern well, I’ll give you what you’ve asked for—I’m giving you a wise and mature heart. There’s never been one like you before; and there’ll be no one after. As a bonus, I’m giving you both the wealth and glory you didn’t ask for—there’s not a king anywhere who will come up to your mark. And if you stay on course, keeping your eye on the life-map and the God-signs as your father David did, I’ll also give you a long life.”Solomon was a humble man who was worried that he would not be able to lead and govern his country. Even though he was David’s son and had been trained to be king he still was concerned that he wouldn’t be able to do it well.So he asked for the ability to lead and govern well. And because of his attitude and his humility, God gave him more. He gave him a wise and mature heart. He gave him wealth and glory. And, if he stayed true to God, he would give him a long life.Lord, be delighted in me. Help me to live my life well. Give me a wise and mature heart. Then I will be successful in all I do.Forgive me for seeking after wealth and glory. Forgive me for not trusting in your providence and your love. Show me how to live my life rich in your love, your joy and your peace. Help me to show others your kindness, your gentleness and your mercy.Today, help me to be faithful in everything you have shown me. Help me to keep watch for life signs and the maps you have set along the way. Fill me with serenity today.
