(My grandmother, Anna Daisy Siemens, wrote poetry and prose. She wrote devotions that were published for Devotions for the Deaf in 1994. Here are her suggestions for writing devotions.)Read the opening scripture from your own Bible, slowly, distinctly and prayerfully.Commentary. Commentaries of these scriptures should not be just read and not quoted. Study them and tell them in your own words. Perhaps you have an experience of your own to share on the same theme. Make the commentary your own.Prayer: Prayer is personal, from you to God. Unless prayers are your own and from the heart, can God hear them? If you have a problem with praying in pubic, write your own prayer in the closet — a prayer you can read to reach the heart of God.
