The storms swirl around me as I walk through the day. The winds swirl around me ruffling my hair. I feel that wind. I feel the storm and its power. The wind whistles. The sky is dark and heavy with violent rain and hail. The lightning shines around. The thunder booms in my ears. Yet it does not drown out your voice in my heart. But I know you are here with me. You are mine to see and to feel. You hold my hand. Even though I cannot see you I feel your eyes on me. You are drawing me to you.
In the storm I hear your voice calling to me. I turn toward you. You are there with me in the storm. I was afraid and saw the storm coming upon me. The fear overcame me and I thought I was lost. But you are there. You are always there. You are there even when I turn from you. You are there even when I try to hide from the reality of my life. You never leave me.
In the storms of life I walk with you. You hold my hand. You are there when no one else is. Even when no one else sees the storm, you hold me. You protect me and you protect my heart. You hold me close. You soften my heart towards those who hurt me and make me sad. You show me your plan for them to give me hope. You show me how much you love me. You show me how much you love them.
This storm will be over some day at some point. Will the same people be around me when it is over? But you will not waver. You will not leave me.
Help me, God, to be the person who walks calmly through the storm. Help me help others face their storms. Help me reach out to others while holding tightly to your hand. For the storms are coming.
What is coming? What is happening? It doesn’t matter for he is there to guide us, to hold us, and to comfort us. What can we do? Pray. Pray for protection. Pray for salvation for those around you. Pray for needs to be met. Pray for the basics of life. Pray for inspiration. Pray for courage. Pray for strength. Take his hand daily, moment by moment. Let him walk you through each day and each night.
Philippians 3:12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
Psalm 27:14 Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.
Psalm 31:24 Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for and hope for and expect the Lord!
