Revelation 1:17-20I saw this and fainted dead at his feet. His right hand pulled me upright, his voice reassured me:“Don’t fear: I am First, I am Last, I’m Alive. I died, but I came to life, and my life is now forever. See these keys in my hand? They open and lock Death’s doors, they open and lock Hell’s gates. Now write down everything you see: things that are, things about to be. The Seven Stars you saw in my right hand and the seven-branched gold menorah—do you want to know what’s behind them? The Seven Stars are the Angels of the seven churches; the menorah’s seven branches are the seven churches.”John fainted because of how Jesus appeared to him:I saw a gold menorah with seven branches, And in the center, the Son of Man, in a robe and gold breastplate, hair a blizzard of white, Eyes pouring fire-blaze, both feet furnace-fired bronze, His voice a cataract, right hand holding the Seven Stars, His mouth a sharp-biting sword, his face a perigee sun.Generally, when we are praying we don’t have this kind of vision. Trying to imagine what it would be like to be presented with this doesn’t come close to the actual experience. I probably would have fainted too.And if this vision then picked me up and told me to write down everything I see, I would have worked very hard at it.What does it take for me to become serious in the mission that God has for me today?Lord, forgive me for my selfishness and complacency. You have great things in store for me. You have things you need for me to do. It might not be daring or even exciting. It might be as mundane as to think ahead to prepare dinner. But these are the things that you have for me to do.Give me the strength and courage to persevere and performs the duties you put in front of me today. Give me grace and mercy for others as well as myself. Show me how I can step through this day holding your hand.
