It’s no secret about my quest to pray more often and more effectively this year. I want to be a prayer warrior and align myself with God’s will and purpose. Every day I want to pray with fire. I want to speak God’s word into every part of my life. But how you can pray about everything always is a hard concept to grasp. I want to do it. But how? I want to speak life into my home, my family, my health, my business, my community, and yes, my world. But how?

Enter my verse for this season – Ephesians 6:18-20. My favorite translation this year has been The Voice. It adds a new dimension to my thinking, and it is faithful to the original manuscripts.
Ephesians 6:18a Pray always. Pray in the Spirit. Pray about everything in every way you know how!
How you can pray about everything always!
For me, this verse started strong and then met overwhelm. How do I pray about everything? Every way I know how. What do I know?
- Reading scriptural affirmations out loud (you can find these in the Pray Specifically Journal).
- Write down a verse in a notebook.
- Making the scriptural personal and then praying it out loud. (See writing verses into prayers.)
- Praying from my heart at the moment, either in my head if I’m in public, and it is inappropriate to do it out loud, or out loud.
- Read prayers others have written. (See this list of suggested resources.)
- Pray while driving, watching the news, making dinner, or washing dishes.
- Just open your mouth and heart and talk to your Father in Heaven.
Ephesians 6:18b And keeping all this in mind, pray on behalf of God’s people. Keep on praying feverishly and be on the lookout until evil has been stayed.
Pray on behalf of God’s people. Persecution still exists in our world in many forms. Pray for those in bondage and oppression who suffer for their faith. But also pray for the poor and destitute, the foreigners and visitors, the homeless and besieged, and the orphans and widows. These are the ones who have God’s attention. He hears their cries for help and justice. Pray for freedom and pray for their needs to be met.
(Jeremiah 22:3 This is what the Eternal has to say: ‘Do what is just and right. Rescue those poor ones being robbed by the extortionists. Protect the outsiders, orphans, and widows in your land from any oppression, for they have no one. Stop the violence and the shedding of innocent blood in this place.)
Pray for me that truth will be with me.
Ephesians 6:19-20 And please pray for me. Pray that truth will be with me before I even open my mouth. Ask the Spirit to guide me while I boldly defend the mystery that is the Good News for which I am an ambassador in chains – so pray that I can bravely pronounce the truth, as I should do.
This last part is what I humbly ask you, the reader, to pray for me, as I pray it for you. I pray that truth will be with us, even before we open our mouths. And the Spirit of God will guide us as we speak to others and live our lives this season. Join me in praising God for His glorious presence in our lives.
Psalm 32:7-8 The added directions are my own.
I cry to God:
You are my hiding place.
You will keep me out of trouble
and envelop me with songs that remind me I am free.
He speaks to me:
I will teach you and tell you the way to go and how to get there;
I will give you good counsel, and I will watch over you.
