I was reminded this last weekend how much I enjoy my children. They have grown into lovely adults with whom I enjoy spending time. I love talking clothes with my daughters and talking Sci-Fi with my son. They make me laugh and make me think. They remind me to pray and thank God for my blessings. They share their hurts and listen to mine. They ask me how my day went like they really want to know! I have been mightily blessed.
I rarely get to spend quality time with my husband any more. With my new job and the upcoming wedding, I’m busy when he isn’t working. Occasionally we get out and spend time with just each other. We laugh and talk about our jobs, our children, our parents and sometimes, our dreams. I am blessed.
I spoke with my mom and my dad by email this week as I usually do. They advise me, share with me, and tell me what they are doing and the people they meet. My dad is planting a garden and trying to protect it from the weather and bugs. Then he plays with his computer. My mom is busy with piano lessons she gives, fun computer work and writing songs and blogs. They attend church regularly, doing bibles studies and enjoying people. I have been blessed with parents who love me and want to share their life with me.
Sometimes my brothers will respond to an email with a reply all. They talk about what is happening with their families and how they are feeling. Our children are almost all out of high school and moving on with life. Two of my brothers have grandchildren they can enjoy. It is fun when someone makes a comment and in about 24 hours or so we have all made comments on the comment. I enjoy my brothers and their personalities. I have been blessed.
I receive emails from my friends even when I don’t get to see them very often. We love and support each other, even when we are not in close contact. They give good counsel and hope when needed, support when needed and prayer in faith when needed. They share what is happening in their lives and I share back. I have been blessed.
I have a few girls in my small group who enjoy spending time with me. We get together once a week even if we can’t make it on small group night. They text me, email me, post on my myspace. They are full of life and learning to make life’s choices with God in mind. They fill me with joy. I have been blessed.
God loves listening to me. But he also wants me to listen to him, to enjoy being with him. He is a God who loves deeply. I love him and he loves me. I am blessed.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-9 Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.
